Project History, Miscellaneous

The following is a sample of the miscellaneous projects performed by ACE Automation employees. In addition to programming, typical jobs required investigation of existing plant operations, writing of the functional specification for system design, engineering services, and installation of the hardware, user training, and startup.

Time Synchronization Application – Texas

Developed a stand-alone application in Visual Basic 6 to synchronize several HMI PC clocks with the PLC clock. TimeSync was set up to either synchronize from the HMI clock to the PLC clock or the PLC clock to the HMI clock. Several configuration options were included that allowed selection of the method of synchronization: a certain time of day, or a certain difference between the two compared clocks. A logger was developed similar to the standard Intouch WonderWare logger to keep track of errors and synchronization times.

Engineering Facility – 2003 Texas

Set up an engineering facility with three Linux Servers. Two additional servers were used as a gateway firewall and choke firewall. The company’s mail, ftp and web servers were set up in a DMZ configuration between the two firewalls. A DNS server was set up with four sub domains. The following open source software was used Sendmail, Bind, Proftp, IpTables, Qpopper, Apache, PHP, OpenSSH, and NTP.

Sewage Treatment Facility - Texas

Corrected and completed installation of existing flawed PLC program at this plant. PLC problems were traced to improper use of batch type programming in a real time processor. Programmed in TISOFT.

Groundwater Contamination Recovery System – Washington State

Monitoring and control of three vacuum recovery compressors, with flow control and mass flow totalization. The PLC was programmed to keep two of the three compressors running at all times, and to fail to the third compressor after three aborted start sequences. With remote dial SCADA interface and MMI. Programmed in TISOFT and CVU10000.

Car Shredder – Tennessee

Modification and startup of a 2,000 HP DC motor, SCR driven car shredding plant. System used a Siemens 435 processor and Interact MMI software. Programmed in TISOFT, Interact.

Computer Manufacturing Plant - Texas

Created new PLC control programs to replace 3 existing plant HVAC systems and lighting control systems. Logic included demand management, alarming, zone control, and timed startup and shutdown. Programmed in TISOFT.

Back when equipment was built by hand, workers would proudly sign their work by placing brass nameplates on their products. ACE Automation carries on the tradition, showing the spirit and pride represented in our work by adopting the brass plate as our symbol.
