Project History, Pharmaceutical

The following is a sample of the pharmaceutical related projects performed by ACE Automation employees. In addition to programming, typical jobs required investigation of existing plant operations, writing of the functional specification for system design, engineering services, and installation of the hardware, user training, and startup.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plant - Texas

Programmed PLC and HMI graphics for a Distilled/Deinonized utilities system. This project consisted of 10 HMI (3 Main, 7 Auxiliary) stations using Lookout 3.8/5.0 and 6 (3 main, 4 Auxiliary) Siemens TI 555 PLCs that controlled an 8 loop water delivery system. Feedforward control with a PID trim was used to control the temperature in the loop heat exchangers to allow for large changes in flow and inlet temperature. The PLCs communicated to the HMIs and to the auxiliary PLCs with Ethernet. The auxiliaries were controlled by their own HMI located in a sterilized production room. Each loop had a startup, shutdown, normal operation, hot sanitization, sterilization and flushing sequence. This system was installed over the course of 3 years to reduce the impact on production scheduling.

DI/DW Water system, Pharmaceutical Plant - Texas

This plant produces 50,000 gpd of de-ionized and distilled water for use in IV bags. This program controls approx. 100 valves, three stills and six pumps, and provides automated processes such as tank level control, daily tank draining and refilling, and tank switching operations. 16 step steaming operations were programmed to provide sterilization of the entire system. Programmed in APT.

Utility System for Pharmaceutical Facility - Texas

Operator interface for utilities system – This system uses a TI555 PLC, and 3 operator interfaces. The purpose of this system is to monitor and control a utilities area in a pharmaceutical plant. Designed screens to allow the operator to see the status and control a de-ionization process, distilled process, compressed air, steam and burner systems. Designed an automatic paging system using Win911 to page the operators with any needed alarms. Provided on site startup support. Programmed using Lookout.

Back when equipment was built by hand, workers would proudly sign their work by placing brass nameplates on their products. ACE Automation carries on the tradition, showing the spirit and pride represented in our work by adopting the brass plate as our symbol.
